21/07/2008 - Forest will keep Cole fired up
Colin Calderwood believes Andrew Cole can become Nottingham Forest's Dean Windass or Teddy Sheringham.
The Reds boss fought off interest from other clubs to persuade the former England international to return to his home town.
And, while he admits Forest will have to monitor the 36-year-old's energy levels during the course of the campaign, he believes he can have the same kind of impact as Windass had for Hull last season - when he netted 15 goals to help them into the Premiership, despite fast approaching his 40th birthday.
Calderwood also highlighted the example of former Forest player Sheringham, who was still scoring goals for West Ham in the top flight beyond 40.
Calderwood says the club will keep a careful eye on Cole to ensure they do not overly fatigue the former Manchester United and Newcastle man - but expects him to be available for the majority of Championship matches.
"He knows himself and it will be a case of using him when he is in peak condition," said Calderwood. "But that is why we have pre-season and I think he might just amaze himself, in terms of the number of games he can play.
"Few clubs would have brought Dean Windass last summer, certainly not in the Championship, but I bet there are a few who wished they had.
"It is an incredibly tough league and players of this ilk are becoming more common.
"They can still have a massive influence."
