Gunter: Forest have the firepower to keep us up there

Monday, February 08, 2010, 07:00

CHRIS Gunter believes the finishing power of Dexter Blackstock and the rest of the Forest front-line can help the Reds claw their way to three points when they are not at their best.

Striker Blackstock netted twice to overcome a hard-working Sheffield Wednesday side, on an afternoon when Forest were never quite at their best.

And defender Gunter (pictured) says the Reds always believe they can win matches, even when they are not firing on all cylinders, because of the finishing power they have in front of goal within their ranks.

"We have Dexter, Earnie, David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola all available to us. We have threats all over the pitch really," said Gunter.

"Dexter works so hard for the team. A lot of what he does for us perhaps isn't recognised by everyone. He is a top striker.

"But we know if there is a chance in a game, it is more than likely that it is going to get put away. It only takes a second to score a goal and we have people who can turn a game quite quickly.

"Chris Cohen produces a lot of chances for people, Raddy Majewski is a goal threat as well. It is pleasing to know we have that in our locker if we are not able to play the kind of football we would like.

"It is great to see Dexter sticking home the penalties because we had a bit of trouble with those at the start of the season.

"But we know that is what we have got – we know we have people on the pitch who can score goals.

"It would have been nice to keep a clean sheet but the main thing was to get back to winning ways. Hopefully, we are back on the road to better things again now."

Gunter hopes Forest can build another unbeaten run now they have bounced back from their defeat at Derby.

"The aim is to get another little run going. We have not become a bad team overnight, we have not lost a lot of confidence overnight," he said.

"We have lost one game in 21 matches. It is a great run and the important thing is to start another run now.

"On Saturday, we were not helped by some of the decisions from the referee. His performance was certainly different to anything I have seen before, if I can put it that way.

"But we will have games where things don't go for us and, if we can win those games, that is a big thing.

"We passed quite a big test against Sheffield Wednesday, in that sense."
